If you don’t pay your child support, there will be consequences. As one very famous sports figure found out, you can even go to jail for missing those payments. As two mothers who need payments from the same father know, it doesn’t matter how much you make, there may well be repercussions if you don’t pay child support on time as ordered by the court.
A former professional league baseball player has failed to pay child support and it is affecting the children involved. This is often a controversial subject with both moms and dads missing payments. It is a universal problem that touches many people.
One of the mother’s of the baseball player’s children says that he needs to set an example and has fallen short of that. The other woman has gone to court and has asked for official intervention in this case because it doesn’t appear that the man will be making his child support payments in the future at all. The court answered with a contempt of court and it looks like he may go to jail for his missed payments.
Sometimes, the support that is due means a better future for the children involved. It doesn’t mean more sodas and candy bars; it means a better education and more extra-curricular activities. It meant, for one child, the chance to do what he loved: being a basketball player.
Although it seems like kids are expensive and don’t really know what they want to do, the support they receive means that they can find out for themselves what they are good at and what they want to do in the future.
If you are in a situation that is unclear in regards to child support, you may find the advice of an experienced family law attorney helpful.
